Description
A survey of the experience of African-Americans in the development of American society. Topics will include African backgrounds, colonial and ante bellum slavery, free black communities, the effects of the Civil War and Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, African-Americans at home and abroad during the 20th century, and the Civil Rights movement. Credit, three semester hours.
