    Description

    Prerequisite: Psychology 201. This course is an overview of the various mental, physical and emotional disabilities which may be found in the public school classroom. Attention will be given to historical perspectives, models, theories, philosophies, and trends that provide the basis for special education. A study of research, public law requirements for students with educational disabilities, medical aspects associated with disabilities, mainstreaming and practical classroom methods for dealing with exceptional children will be incorporated. Field experience in the public schools is included in the course (cross-listed with Education 302). Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered every semester.
