Lady Cobra Basketball signs Grimm

The Lady Cobra basketball team is proud to announce the signing of a letter of intent by Virginia High School standout, Ashley Grimm. Ashley was first team All-Cumberland Mountain District and All-Region D and helped the Bearcats to win two region division 2 titles."We are extremely excited to have Ashley join our team. She is a hard worker and will be an asset to the women's basketball program here at Virginia Intermont," stated Coach Jaclyn Dickens.

Softball signs Horner

 

Samantha Horner, Gate City High School senior has signed a letter of intent to play softball with the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont College. Horner lettered three years at Gate City High School in softball and four years in basketball while maintaining a 3.6 grade point average. Coach Eric Senter states, “We are real pleased to have Samantha and we feel that she will come in and give us a lot of help and she will be a nice fit for our team.” Samantha stated, “I’ve really been looking forward to the opportunity of playing ball at the next level. I am eager to get started. I know the competition will be a lot tougher, but I will work hard. I think I will be able to get a good education at VI. They have several different areas that I could pursue that will prepare me for the future.”


Volleyball Signs Malone

Virginia Intermont College volleyball program is proud to announce that Lacey Malone has signed a letter of intent for the 2008 season. Lacey comes to the Cobras from Sullivan East High School in Bluff City, TN where she has compiled over 200 digs during her high school career. Coach Roxanne Hite states, " We are looking forward to working with Lacey and are pleased to have her as an addition to our program."


Softball signs Belcher

Nikita Belcher is the fourth addition to the 2008-09 Lady Cobras softball class. Nakita is a senior at John S. Battle High School in Bristol, VA. Nakita has obtained several awards during her high school career including the state record for most homeruns in a single game (3), second highest homeruns in a season (10) and second highest number of RBIs (43). Coach Senter states," We are thrilled to have Nakita join our Cobra family. She will be an asset to the softball team as well as the campus community."

Chris Holt -  Athletic Director
Chris Holt enters his ninth year of commitment to Virginia Intermont College athletics. He has served in many different roles, including Assistant Athletic Director, Athletic Enrollments Coordinator, Senior Admissions Counselor, Student-Athlete Advisor, and most recently, a six-year appointment as Head Baseball Coach. In addition to Athletic Director, Holt is the Head Golf Coach.

Willie Belcher is the Sports Information Director and the administrative assistant to the athletics department. She is athletics liaison for the local media and is responsible for reporting AAC and NAIA statistical information for all sports.

Greg Spurling - Head Athletic Trainer
Greg Spurling assists student-athletes with physical injuries or emergencies. He aids in rehabilitation and physical therapy. A former Phoenix Suns (‘86), Chicago Bulls (‘88 -’89), and international professional basketball player, Spurling is certified with the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) and is licensed in Tennessee and Virginia.

Amanda Painter - Assistant Athletic Trainer
Amanda Painter is a NATA and Virginia-licensed athletic trainer. She provides coverage at athletic events and oversees student trainers. She also works with athletes to prevent and rehabilitate injuries.

Roxanne Connair - Strength & Conditioning Coach / Fitness Center Director
Roxanne Connair leads VI's Strength and Conditioning program, which assists every athlete in the college's 16 athletic programs. Connair has a Master's Degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
